get inspired - 5 places to find inspiration

Inspiration and creativity can come from almost anywhere – the rise of street artImprov Everywhere‘s NYC pranks and the blend of physical and digital worlds with 3D printing all prove this. Sometimes we just need a push in the right direction to find it. Quotes, Pinterest and Tumblr are just a few go-to sources to inspire creativity, but there are many more resources available that are waiting for you to discover them. From eye-opening books and movies to motivational classes and trips, a little inspiration pick-me-up can be found in these places:

Book: The Alchemist

This is a self-help book written as a novel. Considered a modern-day classic, The Alchemist has sold two million copies around the world and for good reason. Readers are taken on a worldly journey alongside Santiago, a young Andalusian shepherd looking to pursue his “Personal Legend.” Traveling from town to town, we learn that Santiago’s path is really one of self-discovery. Each page inspires readers to listen to their heart and follow their dreams. Suggest it to your book club or read it while traveling (it’s only 163 pages). It’s great for thoughtful discussions and spreading positive attitudes.

Movie: Roman Holiday

We’re suckers for classic, black-and-white films. Roman Holiday is a dreamy romance filled with wit, featuring Audrey Hepburn as a rebellious princess looking to escape her royal retainers. Get whisked away with Audrey as Gregory Peck, who plays a sly American journalist, steals her heart on a scenic tour of Rome on his blue Vespa.

Invite some friends over to enjoy this classic. For movie snacks, prepare a table of traditional Italian dishes to stay on theme, like thinly sliced prosciutto, gnocchi and tiramisu. The movie will inspire you to plan a trip to Italy or at least rent a Vespa in your town for a fun-filled day.

Destination: One World 365

For adventurous types, One World 365 is the perfect source for finding multiple volunteer and travel opportunities worldwide. Want to visit South Africa? Not a problem. One World 365 offers inspiring trips in 100+ destinations to help people feel more comfortable about traveling abroad. Scroll through the site and find yourself planning a destination visit in no time.

Classes: Craftsy Online Cooking Classes

For beginner cooks or those looking to do more in the kitchen, Craftsy offers nearly any cooking class you could want to take. From The Art of Stir-Frying to Classic and Creative Brioche Pastries, enjoy a seamless virtual class with a professional chef. Can’t tell the difference between a measuring spoon and a teaspoon? Want to learn how to properly break an egg or cut an onion? As long as you have a healthy appetite and are eager to learn, Craftsy will take care of the rest. You’ll be tipping your chef’s hat and julienning vegetables in no time!

Art: The Guggenheim Museum

The Guggenheim is an internationally renowned, 20th century art museum and architectural icon. Our favorite (and most accessible) collection currently in the New York location is the Thannhauser Collection, featuring 20+ pieces by Pablo Picasso. From the impeccable design of the building to the wide array of artwork housed inside, the Guggenheim oozes inspiration from every corner. With an open mind and schedule, this is one place you’ll love getting lost in for hours. If you can’t make it to New York City this year, check out the Google Art Project – you’ll feel like you’re experiencing the art in person!

Regardless of the day or season, each of these ideas has timeless appeal and will leave you with a newfound inspiration, passion, or, at least, wanderlust. Channel this emotion into motivation to try something new or share it with a friend or loved one who may be in need of a creativity boost. Hopefully, they’ll have something to share in return.
